Drivers with popular ride share companies use an online-enabled Transportation Network Platform (TNP) application, or digital network like Uber or Lyft (TNC), to offer rides, locate and accept paying riders, and accept payment for the ride. There is a gap in almost all driver’s auto insurance coverage between the time the driver logs onto the TNP application to look for a passenger and the time the driver accepts a passenger’s request for a ride via the application.

Some Companies, like Safeco, are now offering an endorsement that will cover that gap. So, if you are driving for a TNC, check with your Agent to see if you can add this coverage to your policy.

We also strongly recommend verifying what type of coverage the TNC provides when you are covered under their policy. Often times the coverage is less than what you currently have, which you should factor in before signing on.
